Halmstad City Library is situated in the central of the city near the beach of the river Nissan. The shape of the building is unique and the architects were inspired from the trees still standing on the site.

The library has approximately 260.000 media in some 50 different languages: books, magazines and newspapers from all over the world, cd’s, films, video games, talking books, digital books and digital music.

The library is part of a shopping mall called Metropol. Metropol is designet by the architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen and the library has a 30 year lease in it.

The interior is the interesting thing about the library. Bosch & Fjord - the architects for the interior - has really made some interesting and new shapes for furniture and design.

The “Black Diamond” is a characteristic new library building at the waterfront of Copenhagen. The building from 1999 is designed by the Danish architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen as an extension of The Royal Library and lies adjacent to the old library cathedral of Hans J. Holm from 1906. However, in form and materials it strikingly contrasts the old library building.
