Bree Public Library
The public library of Bree was completely renovated in 2005. The result is a library without interior walls, creating an abundance of daylight and a large open space in which shelves are organized from low ones to high ones from the centre to the walls. The total floor space was increased by abolishing the auditorium and establishing an extra level. Mobile shelves allow creating a space for performances, lectures etc.
Zonnebeke Public Library
The public library of Zonnebeke is located in a park in the centre of the community with 12.000 inhabitants. Architects renovated an old barn and built a complete new wing. The two buildings are connected by a glass entrance hall. This combination of old and new reflects the specific situation of Zonnebeke, a village which was partly destroyed during the First World War and had to be rebuilt. The new library wing has a rust colour to maintain the connection with the environment and to refer to the Great War.
Public Library "Juraj Šižgorić" Šibenik
The City Library “Juraj Šižgorić”, founded in 1922 was relocated into a new building in the very centre of the city in 2005. The new library space enabled the introduction of new content: an audiovisual department, computer workshop, playroom, multimedia hall, art gallery, study reading room, etc.
City Library "Ivan Goran Kovačić" Karlovac
The City Library “Ivan Goran Kovačić” is the oldest cultural institution in Karlovac. It was founded during the period of the Illyrian movement, on 1 March 1838 under the name of Ilirsko čitanja društvo (Illyrian Reading Society). The idea was to start a public library for the citizens of Karlovac with the aim of preservation and care for Croatian language, for promotion of literacy, writing and national morale.
Public Library "Petar Preradović" Bjelovar
The Public Library “Petar Preradović”, founded in 1946, continues the rich tradition of public libraries and reading rooms in Bjelovar. The development of the library was hindered by inadequate space – cramped space, 4 different locations, unresolved property relations, etc. In June 2001, after three years of renovation the newly remodelled library officially opened in June 2001.
Public Library Zadar
After its relocation to the present site in 1999, the Zadar Public Library has become a favourable and pleasant daily meeting place for over one thousand users – the centre of the local community in which over 400 events take place each year and which is constantly in the focus of media attention. The Zadar Public Library has been included in the good practice guidelines of the European Community, acting as a Croatian model of a contemporary public library.
Municipal Public Library Dámaso Alonso in Madrid
The Municipal Public Library Dámaso Alonso is one of the 27 libraries under Madrid City Council responsability, through General Direction of Archives, Libraries and Museums of Arts Area. The two-stores building is located in the north of the city and has 320 m2 per floor.
The main entrance is leveled to the upper floor of the library near by the circulation section, children and youth area and periodicals section.
The ground store is open to a courtyard where are the reading room, a multimedia space and the staff area.
Regional Library Joaquín Leguina of Madrid
The Regional Library Joaquín Leguina of Madrid is located in the south-east of the capital city.
Currently, the library is placed in a former brewery called El Águila. The library shares the building with the Regional Archive of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and with the Legal Deposit.
The original building was built between 1912 and 1914 by Eugenio Jiménez Corera and later on was extended by Luis Sainz de los Terreros.
State Public Library in Guadalajara
This public library is the main library of Guadalajara, one of the most important cities of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha (a region on the center-east of Spain) that counts on a population of 75.493 in habitants.
The library is located in a historical building called Palacio de los Dávalos. Former palace that belonged to a Spanish nobiliary family in the 16th century. For this reason, the current library preserve a magnificent historical coffered ceiling and a central courtyard surrounded by stone columns of the same period.
Kobarid Public Library
Kobarid Public Library was conceived as an information and social centre of Kobarid municipality (4700 inhabitants) and has brought to life a new concept of organizing the library materials (25.000 units). Technical materials on various media are arranged in thematic areas and are meant for specific target groups. Due to the modern technical equipment, users can access to various information on different media. Beside books the main roles in the library play films, music and internet.
