In many years the attention has been aimed at the site adjacent, where the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kronborg Castle, which is famous for its role in Shakespeare's Hamlet, exerts its magnetic pull on both tourists and local citizens of Elsinore – but now Elsinore’s old shipbuilding yard has been transformed into a 17.000 m2 cultural and knowledge centre, including concert halls, showrooms, conference rooms, a dockyard museum and a public library.
The Library itself is 6.000 m2

Ordrup Library is connected to the local high school under the same roof.

The idea is to have a multi-purpose cultural building that includes and stimulates both sports, culture and reading - and creating a recreational place in the city.

The building is closely integrated into the landscape leaving a beautiful view to green areas from the inside.

The library is central in the building witch also include a sports hall and a high school. Some areas allow room for more noisy activities and as you enter deeper into the library the less likely you will hear the other users.

The “Black Diamond” is a characteristic new library building at the waterfront of Copenhagen. The building from 1999 is designed by the Danish architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen as an extension of The Royal Library and lies adjacent to the old library cathedral of Hans J. Holm from 1906. However, in form and materials it strikingly contrasts the old library building.
